War Storm* by Victoria Aveyard

I was not ready for this book. I had a bit of a love hate relationship with King's Cage, it was my least favourite of the series and after that I was pretty apprehensive about War Storm. I really didn't need to be. This book had everything I loved from the first and more besides. There was so much action, so many plots and the world expanded so much here. I loved the different settings and once again the different POV's.

Evangeline remains one of my favourite characters.

My only qualm? The ending. I wanted more.

**Spoilers**

You have been warned.

OMG I love Iris Cygnet. More than I probably should. She is an astounding character, a will of steel, courage beyond measure and yet she remains vulnerable and very feminine. The epitome of 'strong female', how I hate that phrase. My favourite moment is without question the rising of the River in Archeon. Cinematically it would've been fantastic. I also loved how Iris and her mothers relationship was presented, incredibly respectful and for once we had present parents! Praise the lord.

As always Evangeline was one of my favourites. She's such a complex woman, torn between the duty she feels obliged to fulfil and the woman she loves. Admittedly, I'm not particularly adept at evaluating LGBTQ+ rep but I had one issue with this portrayal of a f\f relationship. Evangeline's parents homophobic view of their daughters relationship was never, to my memory, addressed and called out. Instead there was simply an alternative place for them to go to where their relationship was accepted. It made me feel a little uneasy. Though, if I have misinterpreted any aspect of this please do educate me.

Once again I got a little sick of the back and forth between Mare and Cal. Will they won't they and all that. Even in the end they were not given a clear cut ending. He'd done as she asked, given up the crown and had started a movement. But still, they didn't end up together or apart. Just 'we'll see what happens'. Which I felt really meh and is that it about.

Honestly, the entire ending I felt could've had a lot more impact. For such a build up to this final battle it was over so so quickly. That doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy it though. I just wanted more. So much more. I'm really going to miss this series, these characters and this world.
