Top 5 Wednesday: Favourite Jokesters

April 6, 2018

What is Top 5 Wednesday?

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Sam of Thoughts on Tomes on YouTube. Here is the link for the Goodreads group where you can find the list of topics and such.

This weeks topic is: Favourite Jokesters

1. Magnus Chase by Rick Riordan

I don't think I've ever read a book that's made me laugh so much. Even the chapter titles are hilarious. For such a funny book the stakes are incredibly high in this series. Yes it's a middle grade but there was still a lot of tension. The hilarity helped to balance that out which I really liked. Magnus is the sassiest character I've ever had the pleasure of reading in middle grade.

4. A Game of Thrones by George R R Martin

Tyrion will forever be one of my favourite characters both from Game of Thrones and just in general. He's so witty and isn't afraid to speak his mind. A mind he wields just as Jon Snow wields a sword. The sass he dishes out in the books and in the show is simply fantastic. I love it. I have a mug that says 'I drink and I know things' and it makes me so so happy.

3. Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Sevro is the most foul mouth, vulgar and crude character... and I adore him. Without fail anything he says makes me laugh, even if it really shouldn't. He does the maddest things, not even intending to be funny but still they have me cracking up. I love the banter between him and Darrow, they bounce off each other so well, it's as though they're brothers. Which they are really, if not in blood but name.

I have a review for Iron Gold* here.

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

Celaena is a very marmite character I've noticed. You either love her or hate her...but both camps agree she's an incredibly sassy character. That's what I tend to enjoy the most. Sassy and sarcastic characters. She manages to disarm an opponent with her wit just as easily as with a sword. I can't wait to see more of her in Kingdom of Ash!

I have a review for Tower of Dawn here.

2. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab

Another sassy yet polarising character, Delilah god I love her. Much like Celaena she uses her wit as a weapon and beguiles her opponents with it. She's doesn't treat people differently. Royal or not everyone is subject to the wit and wisdom of Lila Bard. I love her.

I have a review of A Gathering of Shadows here.

I have a review for A Conjuring of Light here.
