Top 5 Wednesday: Books You Liked with Tropes You Usually Hate

What is Top 5 Wednesday?

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Sam of Thoughts on Tomes on YouTube. Here is the link for the Goodreads group where you can find the list of topics and such.

This weeks topic is: Books You Liked with Tropes You Usually Hate

4. Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

The love triangle. Now, it's both my favourite and most hated trope. When done well it's fantastic but it can be sooooo painful. Throne of Glass manipulates this trope perfectly. I couldn't even pick a ship when reading! I loved Celaena with both of her options!

I have a review for Tower of Dawn here.

1. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Yet another great love triangle. I really felt for Mare considering the situation she found herself in. Torn between two guys, both of whom she had feelings for but unable to truly be with either of them. Anyone whose read the series would know how much changes in the many many many relationships in this series. I'm reading War Storm at the moment and oh my god. I was not ready.

I have a review for King's Cage* here.

3. Divergent by Veronica Roth

The bad boy. We all love them every now and again. They're like cake. You don't want too much because it makes you a little sick. Four from the Divergent series is the epitome of a bad boy. Particularly, the guy they casted in the movie. He's tall, dark and tattooed, which also happens to be my type. I really don't want to know what that says about me. Needless to say I adored him and this series.

2. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

Yay more love triangles. Well, less of a triangle and more a straight swap. But, what I appreciated about this series is how it explicitly portrays a harmful relationship and that leaving is an option. If you aren't happy then go. That's what this book showed. It's not easy, it's not enjoyable but in the long run its so much better. This remains one of my favourite series.

I have a review for A Court of Wings and Ruin here.

I have a review for A Court of Frost and Starlight here.

5. Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

The hidden royal. That's all, because spoilers and all that.

What books did you like that had tropes you usually hate?

Thank-you for reading,
