Top 5 Wednesday: Books to Read without the Synopsis

October 8, 2017

What is Top 5 Wednesday?

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Sam of Thoughts on Tomes on YouTube. Here is the link for the Goodreads group where you can find the list of topics and such.

Books to Read without the Synopsis

1. Magnus Chase by Rick Riordan

Though it isn't considered a spoiler right on the back of the book in one of the first sentences...MAGNUS DIES. Yes, he spends the entire novel dead but still. For shock value it would've been so much better for him just to come out with it at the start of the novel.

Shiny Covers

Now, this isn't a bad synopsis by any stretch but the book is so much better and so much more than the blurb sets it up to be. There's friendship, political intrigue and a mind blowing plot. If you were put off this series by the blurb I urge you give it a go anyway.

I have a review for Under the Never Sky here

I have a review for Through the Ever Night here

I have a review for Into the Still Blue here

3. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Once again this synopsis didn't really give any inclination as to what the book is about. Just that something is killing the human population. This was one of my favourite books and the blurb just doesn't do it justice.

4. We Were Liars by E Lockhart

E.Lockhart writes books that simply cannot be summarised. We Were Liars is no different. And even if they have a summary half the time you still have no clue about whats going to happen. Definitely just go in will be anyway. We Were Liars is absolutely fantastic and their newest book Genuine Fraud has just been released...and again I have no idea what its about...

5. The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry

The Essex Serpent's synopsis in comparison gives far too much away in my opinion. This is one I definitely feel you can, and should read blind. It's a beautiful story and one that took me by surprise.
