Books Read-a-thon Wrap Ups

Tome Topple Wrap Up

Tome Topple 2020

I knew when I made my TBR that it was highly ambitious but in all honestly I thought I'd read more than two books. Part of my lack of reading was because I was spending so much time working in the garden trying to get it painted and ready for summer. Turns out it takes a long time to paint walls white....

Nevertheless, I loved the books I read and plan on finishing my TBR over the next few months. I say months because did you see the size of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell?!

Angel Fire by L.A. Weatherly

Angel Fire by L.A. Weatherly

I read Angel Fire to complete the task of the tome that has been on your TBR the longest. Before that I also reread the first book in this series, Angel to give the following ones a fairer review. I have to say whilst the book has most definitely dated it's still a fun read. The characters are the archetypes that were in virtually every book in the early 2010s and still, I found myself liking them. There isn't really anything greatly thought provoking, nor will I remember the story in a few months. But I had fun with this. The story kept me engaged and I felt genuine worry for the characters I'd grown attached to.

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

I read Serpent & Dove to fulfil the challenges of reading one tome and reading a tome from a series. I found a new favourite book and possibly, a new favourite author if the next book is as good as this one! It was utterly captivating. I adored Lou and how whilst she was a protagonist you wanted to root for she was the epitome of morally grey. Then Reid, her holier than thou opposite was a joy to watch grow. The setting was mesmerising, the magic system so unique. The plot moved with great pace whilst allowing moments of compassion and tenderness enough time to be enjoyed. Loved it.
