Tome Topple TBR

Tome Topple 2020

I've got the Read-a-Thon bug apparently. I've always watched and read posts about Tome Topple but never before participated myself. This Read-a-Thon was created by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes with the entire idea to be read books over 500 pages. I think because I've always been in education I've always felt like I'll never do that well with this. Fortunately, I finish my final year of University on Tuesday! What better time to give it a go?

Sam has listed a few challenges to help curate a TBR and has said that one book can count towards two challenges.

The Challenges:

  1. Read one tome.
  2. Read an adult tome.
  3. Read a standalone tome.
  4. Listen to a tome on audio.
  5. Read a tome from a series.
  6. Read a tome for API (Asian/Pacific Islander) Heritage Month.
  7. Read a tome from a genre you don't normally read.
  8. Read the tome that has been on your TBR the longest.
  9. Read the tome with the most pages on your TBR.

I don't know who I am but I'm trying to do all but one of these. I won't be listening to an audiobook, I just don't get on well with them. That being said I'm trying to read five tomes...help.

After by Anna Todd

After by Anna Todd

I've heard many....things about this book and its sequels. Colour me curious and if I'm going to start reading romance why not while I have some free time. I picked After to fulfil the challenges of reading an adult tome and read a tome from a genre you don't usually go for. Up to now, I have never read a pure romance novel.

Angel Fire by L.A. Weatherly

Angel Fire by L.A. Weatherly

I planned a little ahead for this Tome Topple and reread Angel (review coming soon) by L.A. Weatherly so I could read this straight after. I haven't read this series since maybe as early as 2010? Oh my god. Am I showing my age now? Angel Fire therefore definitely fulfils the challenges of read the tome that has been on your TBR the longest. Spoiler, I loved Angel. It's very of the time and so a little young but it was so much fun. I can't wait to properly get stuck into this one.

The Poppy War by RF Kuang

The Poppy War by RF Kuang

My darling boyfriend did a drive-by drop off of this for me. I have some of my books stored down at his house and go figure all of the books that fit the API prompt are at his. I've been itching to read The Poppy War for ages and got an ARC of the sequel a little while ago. This book fulfils the prompt of reading a tome for API Heritage Month.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke

This was a total cover buy. I'd been planning on picking up Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell for a while and when I saw the Bloomsbury covers I haaaad to have it in this form. This is a behemoth of a book, which is why I chose it for the tome with the most pages challenge and also it fits the standalone prompt too. I look forward to getting stuck into this one.

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Fairyloot has just recently announced the box they're producing for the sequel to Serpent & Dove...figured I'd better read the first book if I wanted to get that really. A wonderful coincidence it just so happens to be over 500 pages. I know very little about this book other than it has been a little polarising in the book community. From what I recall it sounded like my kinda thing. This fulfils the prompt of reading a tome from a series and also read one tome.

Looking at that, oh wow. That's 3,348 pages I'm planning on reading from the 9th May to the 22nd May. Wish me luck!

That's my TBR for the Tome Topple Readathon.

What are you planning to read?

Any of these?

Thank you for reading,
