I feel like I'm on an impossible quest. But decidedly less glamorous then Lara Croft (the new film looks rather good) I'm nursing a cup of tea, with swatch stained hands, dressed in leggings and fluffy socks. But it's a quest nonetheless. I want to find the best liquid lipstick. The one that stays, isn't overly drying, doesn't flake off and doesn't create the weird line on the inside of my lips. It's a big task but someone's got to do it. After seeing the YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Stain liquid lipstick in a few YouTube videos I thought go on, let's give this one a go. On a spontaneous trip into Manchester I wandered into Selfridges (this is never a good idea). I walked out with a lighter purse and a bag of make-up I definitely
didn't need needed.
This is an incredibly thin formula, like water which means it dries super quickly. But it doesn't dry to completely matte, it's more of a satin finish which I do like. However, this means it doesn't last all that long. It's not difficult to reapply and as the name suggests there is a stain left once it does fade which is nice. I wouldn't consider this a liquid lipstick it's definitely more of a stain. It has a similar feel to those bizarre L'Oreal lipsticks that seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth. The applicator on these is fantastic. It's shaped like a spatula and takes a little getting used to, once you have though it's so easy to get a crisp line. I've already added another to my collection. I started out with the bright red (shade 12) and then decided that I needed a nude as well (shade 16) and now I want more... But at £29 I don't think that's going to be happening any time soon. Maybe a second semester end treat?
Have you tried the Yves Saint Laurent Tatouage Couture Matte Stain liquid lipsticks?
