I'm a convert. I like thrillers now.
I loved this book. It took me a little while to read it as I'd left it at Sam's house to be my 'fun' book, the one that isn't for University. I chose a brilliant one too. I knew a bit about the book as it was picked for the Waterstones Book of the Month in November. I didn't know just how addicting it would be.
The story follows a group of University friends that are now in this mid-thirties, married and having kids. Still, they all have their places within the group. The kind one, the wild one, the bossy one etc. Every year they go away together for New Year's despite the fact that really they don't have all that much in common now. This year the newest member of the group, Emma, organised where they would go. A gorgeous lodge in the Scottish wilderness. But it all goes wrong and one person disappears.
I was convinced I'd fathomed the plot of this from the beginning but I was so wrong. Yet, in retrospect I was kicking myself for not realising as the clues to the ending were weaved in throughout the story. What I really enjoyed was how the dynamics of the group often fluctuated and how you can drastically misjudge someone you thought you knew. It kept me hooked from the first page and guessing till the last.
Also, Doug is my favourite character.
