Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy

April 15, 2019

Mister Hardy is not a happy chap. I loved this book but my god it is not one you read to really enjoy. Everything that could go wrong for Tess went wrong, but she never gave up. She was a character you wanted to root for and one you couldn't help but like. Every hurdle that was thrown in her way she tried to overcome with as much grace and decorum as possible. I just wanted to look after her.

I found this surprisingly easy to read in comparison to most of the Classics I've gone through so far. It was easy to remember which characters were which. Something I've usually struggled with.

Speaking of characters I don't think I've ever hated a character as much as I hated Alec D'Urberville. What an awful human being.

It was certainly a very satisfying ending. More so than most of the other classics I've read.

I'll definitely be reading the rest of Hardy's work in the future.
