I'd never tried a bookish subscription box before Fairy Loot. I had given Loot Crate a go but it wasn't for me. After watching hundreds of unboxings and spending countless hours perusing Instagram I finally took the plunge and gave Fairy Loot a go. If I'm honest it was the September theme that pushed me to place my first order. All That Sass. It couldn't have been more perfect. However, I envision my bank is going to fall out with me considering I now want to order every single box...
Firstly, the book. Even The Darkest Stars is a YA Fantasy (as every book from Fairy Loot is) and sounds unlike anything I've ever read before. Kamzin aspires to be one of the emperor's royal explorers, the elite climbers tasked with mapping the wintry, mountainous Empire and spying on it's enemies. She is given her opportunity to prove herself when an eccentric explorer named River arrives in her town demanding to hire her...much to her sisters chagrin. Now Kamzin must decide between protecting her sister from the dangerous climb... or beating her to the summit. This sounds so gripping and full of familial drama. Which I love! And as always with Fairy Loot you get a letter from the author and a signed bookplate to put inside the novel.
Next, this month we received an absolutely stunning tote bag designed by Miss Phi with reference to the Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. Awfully, I've only ever read Clockwork Angel and that's many many years ago. But I own every single book in the Shadow Hunter Chronicles...
Then and possibly one of my favourite items in the box is this fantastic Rattle the Stars Beanie designed by Reverie and Ink. Throne of Glass has remained one of my favourite series for years and beanies really fit with my aesthetic. I'm a happy girl.
I love a good print and this month, aside from the spoiler card (distinct Celaena vibes there!), we were given two! Yes two! Both illustrated by the wonderfully talented Taratjah. If you've ever ogled the Fairy Loot spoiler cards and book marks its this artist that does them all. This month we have Delilah Bard from the A Darker Shade of Magic series complete with demon mask and Captain Thorne from the Lunar Chronicles. I adore ADSOM but have yet to read the Lunar Chronicles... though once again I own them all...
Yes there are three things in this picture and I'm only going to talk about one... Next up is this Grisha inspired notebook designed by the lovely Alexis Lampley of Nerdy Post. Another subscription service I'm desperate to try. I haven't read the Grisha series...can you guess what I'm going to say? I OWN IT! But I have read the Six of Crows Duology and I adored it.
For those that are unaware I adore candles, particularly bookish candles. So far I've only ever tried Meraki Candles and Book and Nook but I've lusted after so many other brands. This month I got to try my first In the Wick of Time candle and I'm in love. Inspired by Magnus Bane of the Mortal Instruments it smells of Sandalwood, Incense and Lavender. It's both sexy man and clean.
Item-wise this is another of my favourite items. A Harry Potter inspired magnet designed by Ink and Wonder designs (home of the woodmark!)
I am an avid tea, coffee and hot chocolate drinker, like I have a cup of tea right next to me now... So when I saw this Brontie & Co hot chocolate I was so excited. I haven't yet tried it...tomorrow may be the day! It's also vegan, dairy free and gluten free!
Finally, some of the publishing swag! We got a sample of the Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue which I desperately want to read and also a Tower of Dawn bookmark. One of my favourite Sarah J Maas books to date.
So this is definitely the start of something new (haha, name that musical) and I will without question be buying more Fairy Loot boxes!
