Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

The second book of the Lunar Chronicles might be my favourite, so far anyway. Scarlet was the reason I picked up this series as I planned to use it for my dissertation with it containing Red Riding Hood themes and similarities. The bonus was I absolutely loved the book.

Just as Cinder was a multiple POV book so too is Scarlet. As well as Cinder and Kai's perspective we now also have Scarlet Benoit's. Her grandmother has gone missing and she suspects foul play but the police believe that her grandma has left of her own volition and so aren't investigating. Then in a strange turn of events, Scarlet meets Wolf. A quiet and almost shy street fighter who wants to help her find her grandma.

Then the story explodes from there. There are so many RRH themes present in this book, it's going to be so good for my dissertation.

Scarlet definitely isn't your damsel in distress Red Riding Hood. She's very self-assured and willing to fight if it gets her to where she needs to be. There is very little shes afraid of, but even when she does feel fear she never lets it control her. I adored the development of her relationship with Wolf. So precious. As is Wolf, I just want to look after him.

We got some Paris setting! One of my favourite cities and I always love when a book has a link to France.

Just like Cinder, the plot of this story keeps you guessing. It's so hard to distinguish who is friend and foe which leaves you permanently on the edge of your seat. I hated having to put the book down, I just wanted to barrel through it. I had to know what happened and I had to make sure that my favourites were okay. Honestly, I'm still not convinced they are. My feels are being completely messed with.
