Othello

I love Shakespeare but this wasn't my favourite. I still enjoyed it and thought that the characters were incredibly dynamic but Macbeth still has my heart. There's a lot of political intrigue, which isn't unheard of for Shakespeare...nor is a starcrossed romance. Othello is a POC character often referred to with racial slurs. But then praised for his military prowess. With nothing but his charm he woos the daughter of a noble. At this time interracial marriages are decidedly unheard of but in the end its accepted.

The entire crux of the plot falls on the shoulders of a character named Iago who makes it his mission to obliterate everything that Othello holds dear. His family, his career and the man himself. It's tense, dramatic and occasionally ludicrous but I liked it.

If you like family drama as a central plot theme then I highly recommend you give this a go.

I love this review honestly! The almost ludicrous nature of the play adds to it, for me at least as there’s a sense of “come on?” during the entire play, I just love Shakespeare! If you could spare the time, could you take a gander at my blog, with my latest post being about why Shakespeare should still be taught in schools? Thank you!
