Off the bat I definitely prefer the darker/fantastical manga series to the contemporary/fluffy series. That being said I didn't dislike Komomo Confiserie. It's an easy, enjoyable and fun read. But it didn't have me on the edge of my seat the same way something like Tokyo Ghoul does.
No matter whether I'm watching anime or reading manga I always love seeing and reading about the food they eat. Reading a manga set in a Confiserie was wonderful, everything always looked so incredible. And now I really want to try tea with rose jam in it.
I adore the illustrations in this series. The clothes, buildings, everything - they're so detailed. A lot of the clothing looks very Parisian...there is an awful lot of bows and I'm all for it.
The message behind the novel irked me a little. Komomo was awful to Natsu when they were children. Simply, because she was able. She came from a then wealthy family and he was the son of their chef. Now, years later, Komomo has lost her fortune and ends up working for Natsu. Who treats her horrendously in revenge. Two wrongs don't make a right. It made for entertaining reading but the message was just so wrong. As a result of this I felt very disassociated from the characters. The only person I liked was Yuri and he got angry when anyone took his food. Honestly, I relate to that.
