How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell

October 1, 2018

I feel like I'm now going to have to read all of Cressida Cowell's books, they're just all so sweet. If I was ever going to liken a book to a hug it'd be this one. It just made me so happy. The names of the characters were great too, I can imagine them tickling a middle grade reader...they certainly fit the Viking theme.

However, I didn't love this as much as I loved the Wizards of Once which is now one of my favourite series. How to Train Your Dragon didn't have me feeling as attached to the characters as Wizards of Once did. I loved Xar and Wish but didn't feel the same about Hiccup or even Toothless. The other issue is how much I adored the film adaption of this series. I thought I was going to see that story in novel form but they're so different. Honestly, I preferred the film. Cardinal sin of the booklover I know. That isn't to say that I didn't enjoy the book. I did. I just loved the film that little bit more.

I'm tempted to carry on with the series one day but I'm not in any great rush to...partially because my TBR won't allow it at the moment!
