I have to start this post by thanking my friend Kimi for suggesting I subscribe to Bird and Blend monthly tea taster package. It's such a wonderful idea as it allows you to try out different kinds of tea without shelling out on a big bag, only to find it tastes like feet (I highly doubt any of their tea tastes like feet but you know what I mean).

Each package comes with three bags of tea in different blends along with a recipe card with suggested ways to enjoy them. In your first package, they send you this little spoon, which has changed my tea life, and some reusable tea bags.

Oh my god this literally smells like the guts of a mince pie. I'm not kidding. I made my Dad smell it without looking and that was the conclusion he came to. It's a black tea with cinnamon, almond pieces, orange peel and pomegranate flowers. You can really taste the cinnamon, for me that was the strongest flavour that came through, followed by a hint of orange. It's definitely one I'll be picking up a full bag of...when I've got through all my other teas.

I have quite the stash now.

The minute I opened this pack I knew I was going to love this tea. It's so fruity with a hint of spice. The longer you leave it the stronger it gets but it's never overpowering. It leaves a tangy aftertaste, a little like ribena actually. Strange as it sounds the tea is so pretty, there are these little white bits that look like snowflakes and it turns a deep pink. The ingredients in this one are hibiscus, cinnamon, apple pieces, cloves, lime leaves, red peppercorns, rosehip, sprinkles and orange peel. You can definitely detect the mulled aspect to this tea.

I must admit I didn't think I was going to like this one at all. I opened the packet and it smelled like a minty fire, that's the only way I can describe it. But, I really enjoyed this tea. It was refreshing at the same time as being warming. An unusual one but I'd happily drink it again. The ingredients for this one are Rooibos, Chinese pu'erh tea, Chinese lapsang souchong black tea, peppermint, safflower, chilli. You can really taste the peppermint and chilli.

Have you tried anything from Bird and Blend?

What did you think?
