Books for Slytherins

September 12, 2019

Slytherin is the next, and final topic in my series of recommending books for Hogwarts Houses. These titles either have characters I believe a Slytherin would identify with or a topic that would perhaps appeal to them.

To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

Sirens that rip the hearts out of men? Perhaps the definition of Slytherin! But this book is suitable for Slytherins for so many other reasons. The evil sea queen places importance on being the best and most bloodthirsty Siren at the cost of everything else. She is cruel to her family and subjects which gives Lira the motivation to defy her and strike out on her own. Lira's ambition is such a Slytherin trait.

Illuminae by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff

Murderous supercomputer. What could be more Slytherin? I loved AIDAN as a character despite that fact he had no body. He was evil but scarily so as he believed he had the right motive to be. He was ambitious and wouldn't let anyone or anything get in the way of that.

I have a review for Illuminae here.

I have a review for Gemina here.

I have a review for Obsidio* here.

The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy

I mean come on. The man gets drunk and sells his wife and child? And ends up a Mayor and one of the most respected men in Casterbridge? I can't think of a better example of ambition!

Tokyo Ghoul

Ghouls that eat humans? Yep. Slytherin.

I have a review for Volume Eleven here.

I have a review for Volume Twelve here.

2. Six of Crows* by Leigh Bardugo

Kaz Brekker is most definitely a Slytherin. Okay, perhaps a Slytherpuff but still. He shows an innate hunger for power and a desire for both himself and his gang to rise to the top and remain there. Often at the expense of other characters, usually his friends.

I have a review for Six of Crows* here.

I have a review for Crooked Kingdom here.

Those are the novels I would recommend for Slytherins.

What would you suggest?

Thank you for reading,
