Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire

I started this series maybe two years ago now and for absolutely no reason I hadn't picked up the next books. Why it took me so long I'll never know. However, I adored Beneath the Sugar Sky. It reminded me why I loved this series. How each book is the perfect length, a fairy tale in each of them with just the right amount of creepy.

Beneath the Sugar Sky is set in the present with all the characters we loved from the first book and a few extra. A girl falls out of the sky and claims to be the daughter of a previous resident of the home for wayward children. Only they passed away before they could make it back through their door.

This book really plays with timelines and the idea of cause and effect. It was so clever. We visited so many lands we had only previously heard about and saw beloved characters from previous books. I still want to know how Seanan McGuire comes up with these amazing worlds. You fall in love with each character more and more. This time we got to hear Kade's story which was just heartbreaking. He's one of my favourites.

I can't wait for the new book to come out.
