August 2020 Wrap Up

Let's move on from what the current date is and what this wrap up is dated, okay? Wonderful. Whilst I didn't read a great deal in August, what I did read I adored. That's the main thing, quality over quantity right? She says whilst the nearly toppling book towers stare at me from the floor...

Bookish and the Beast* by Ashley Poston

Bookish and the Beast* by Ashley Poston

Bookish and the Beast* was one of my most anticipated reads of the year so I was thrilled when Quirk asked me if I'd like to review it. I obviously said yes and obviously loved the book. The entirety of the Once Upon a Con series is so cute and heartwarming. It's filled with all of the most wonderful geekiness, romance and great friendships. I particularly loved Bookish and the Beast* because Beauty and the Beast is my favourite Disney film/fairy tale. It was so fun spotting all the nods to the source material.

The Poppy War by R.F Kuang

I'd been meaning to read The Poppy War for ages and finally got around to it. It was one of those moments where I wondered how I put it off for so long because it was phenomenal. I'm sure you've heard everyone say how bloody and dark it is, let me tell you it really is. I think nearly every trigger warning you could think of is present in this book. That being said there are still a lot of lovely tender moments between friends and also between students and teachers. Rin is by far one of my favourite protagonists, she doesn't always make it easy to like her though!

The Dragon Republic* by R.F. Kuang

Then after The Poppy War I had to immediately move onto The Dragon Republic*. A huge thank you to Harper Voyager for sending me a copy! This book, was as brutal, if not more so than the first. I loved the insight we got into Nehza's character and his family in this one. He's such a complicated character, and arguably a great match for Rin in all senses of the word. Rival, enemy, partner. I can't begin to guess how their relationship will change in the next book. Which I need NOW!
