I love pirates. Any book with any kind of seafaring questionable person, any film and game. I will read, watch and play. I can't quite put my finger on why this kind of narrative speaks to me so much, it just does. Speaking of, if you have any pirate recommendations please send them my way. This box was curated to perfection. I was a little scared though, that I already had the book of the month. I'd convinced myself it was Sea Witch by Sarah Henning so I was so happy to be wrong aaaaaand this months book is by an author I love. Mutinous Pirates...what more could you want from a subscription box?
I very nearly ordered this a few weeks ago at work but thought nah I'll wait a bit. Which I was very impressed with, especially because I loved Snow Like Ashes by Sara. I've yet to read the rest of that series and probably need to read the first again...I had no idea what These Rebel Waves were about but I knew I was going to love it.
**Taken from the book**
Adeula is a solider. Five years ago, she helped the magic-rich island of Grace Loray overthrow its oppressor, Argrid, a country ruled by religion. But adjusting to postwar life has not been easy. When an Argridian delegate vanishes during peace talks with Grace Loray's new Council, Argrid demands brutal justice - but Lu suspects something dangerous is at work.
Devereux is a pirate. As one of the stream raiders who run rampant on Grace Lorary, he scavenges the island's magic plants and sells them on the black market. But after argued accuse raiders of the diplomat's abduction, Vex becomes a target. An expert navigator, he agrees to help Lu find the Argridian - but the truth they uncover could be deadlier than any war.
Benat is a heretic. The crown prince of Argrid, he harbours a secret obsession with Grace Loray's forbidden magic. When Ben's father, the king, gives him the shocking task of reversing Argrid's fear of magic, Ben has to decide if one prince can change a devout country - or if he's building his own pyre.
As conspiracies arise, Lu, Vex and Ben will have to decide who they really are...and what they are willing to become for peace.
I think at least once a week a rehash Captain Jack's Why is the rum always gone, to why is the gin always gone? I like to be on brand. I adore this water bottle. I've started making a conscious effort to drink more water and the magpie in me thinks if I have pretty utensils I'll use them more...turns out it works. Seeing this just makes me happy. I love the design too. I might have to have a look at KDP Letters...
This is quite possibly the most clean and fresh smelling candle I've ever stuck my nose in. It's labelled as ocean scented but I can't pick up on that. It's like a clean sexy man smell...not so much ocean. I also love the artwork on the label too. This is named Elian Prince of Midas and is based on To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo. Which I really want to read! This was created by Nerd Poured Candles.
This years christmas cards are gonna be amazing. I am wax sealing everything in my life. I have no idea why, it's just one of those daft things but I've always been fascinated watching historical/fantasy tv shows when they use these. Like in Game of Thrones and every house had a stamp with their house emblem. Just makes me happy. This is one of Fairyloots own creations too!
This stuff smells edible. I need to place an order on Geeky Clean. I go on their website at least once a week but have never actually purchased anything. Again my nose doesn't believe the label though, it's supposedly a cherry blossom scented sugar scrub but I smell foam bananas! I can't wait to use this stuff.
Please don't shoot me. I haven't read the Grisha trilogy yet. I know I know. I have read Six of Crows though... This hanging flag is super cute and made by Reverie and Ink. A favourite company of mine. It's hanging on the bathroom door for now till I can find a more permanent home for it,
Just look at all the pretty! Once again Taratjah's artwork for the spoiler card is beyond beautiful. I can't explain how excited I am to hang these in my future office. I keep talking about this future office, like I have the entire thing planned out in my head. There will be no millennial pink. I am the exception to the rule... This month Taratjah also did the character art on Sara's letter. I can't get over how much I love this.
Then as for publisher swag we received an exclusive sampler of King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo, which also doubles as a poster and a lovely print of the new Mina Lima book. I love those editions.
So that was my August Fairyloot Unboxing!
